7227 – JAPANESE SHINOBU 15 YEARS OLD PURE WHISKY MIZUNARA OAK FINISH 43º – 70 Cl.

Features: The Shinobu Distillery is located in Niigata and is known in Japan for its Threes Whites treasures, namely snow, rice and sake, in an environment naturally blessed with pure water springs. Shinobu means “Tolerance” in Japanese, as this is how the spirit of the distiller should be when making quality whisky.

Thus, the expressions of the Mizunara Oak Finish are born, carefully selecting whisky from around the world that is first reserved in ex-sherry and ex-bourbon barrels and then finished with precious Japanese Mizunara oak, in Japan.

Mizunara oak is highly prized because the cost of the logs is quite high. It often takes 200 years or more for a mizunara tree to mature sufficiently. The Japanese government also restricts the felling of mizunara trees under 80 years old, which makes this type of Japanese oak even more difficult to obtain for barrel production.

Mizunara oak offers complex notes of sandalwood, coconut, spices and Japanese incense, showing the refinement of oriental flavour with a powerful yet velvety mouth feel.

Tasting Notes:

• View: Deep amber colour with reddish sparkles, a sign of prolonged and careful aging. Bright and clean in the glass.
• Nose: Fresh oak note dominates the spirit with a touch of vanilla with floral touches that bring a breath of nectar.
• Mouth: Fruity note like citrus, Mizunara oak, coffee beans and retro sweet malty taste.
