Features: Glasgow Blend is made with a very high proportion of single malts from the Highlands and Islay (around 65%), combined with Lowland grain. It is matured in a combination of sherry casks, American oak casks and barrels, and hand-made French oak casks. In his 1930s book “Whisky”, Aeneas MacDonald teaches us that Glaswegians historically preferred whiskies with more body and flavour than people in other parts of the world. So what better name for a whisky like this?Glaswegians are also famous for their sense of humour, which is why the city’s Wellington statue, traditionally decorated with a traffic cone, appears on the front label.Based on historical references that Glaswegians have long preferred bigger, smokier whiskies, the high malt content (approx. 65%) is inspired by centuries-old recipes.
Composition and Aging: The blend is characterized by total transparency in its recipe, using mainly:
- Sherry Butts: First-use, which provide notes of nuts and pastry spices.
- Bourbon Barrels: Both first-use and refill.
- French Oak: A small portion is finished in French oak barrels with intense toasting to add spicy complexity.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: Intense and smoky with classic notes of sherry, citrus fruits, peach and hints of vanilla.
- Mouth: Full-bodied and bold. Baked spices, toffee pudding, dark fruits and a persistent but balanced peat smoke are perceived.
- Finish: Medium-long persistence, dominated by smoky notes and a slight vinous sweetness.
Recommendations: Wonderful served in a glass or wine glass before or after dinner, perhaps with a splash of water. The added weight of Glasgow Blend will bring additional depth to whiskey-based cocktails.
