Characteristics: Kanekou Okinawa 8 Years Japanese Whisky is an exceptional creation from the Shinzato distillery, the oldest in Okinawa, with a legacy that dates back to 1846. Its name “Kanekou” honors the history of the distillery, which in its early days operated under this name and was one of the first to obtain a license (1429-1879).

The distillery, true to its motto Wajo Ryoshu (“good wine made with a spirit of harmony”), has developed a unique whiskey that combines three types of distillates: malt whiskey, wheat and Ryukyu whiskey, the latter made entirely from rice and aged in sherry casks for more than 8. The subtropical climate of Okinawa, with heat and humidity, accelerates barrel maturation, while the breeze from the Pacific Ocean brings an exotic character to the blend.

This whisky has been carefully crafted by seventh-generation master blender Naoya Shinzato, achieving a rounded and sophisticated aromatic profile. The character combines the softness of wheat with the complexity of malt and the sweet and fruity notes of rice whisky, offering a harmonious and balanced tasting experience.
