Characteristics: Akashi Japanese Blended Whisky is an expression of Japanese whisky produced by the White Oak Distillery in Akashi, Japan. The distillery was founded in 1919. It originally produced sake and shochu, but began producing whisky in 1984. Akashi Japanese Blended is one of the distillery’s most popular expressions, combining malts and grains distilled in both column and copper stills.It is made using a combination of malts and grains, some of which have been aged in oak barrels for a variable period of time. A variety of barrels are used, including bourbon, sherry and new oak barrels. The distillery uses a variety of stills to distill both malts and grains, which adds complexity to the final product.
Tasting Notes:
- View: Light golden amber colour, influenced by the time it has been aged in oak barrels.
- Nose: It has notes of fresh fruits such as apple and pear, along with hints of honey, vanilla and soft spices. It can also have floral and toasted oak nuances.
- Mouth: In the mouth it is smooth and balanced, with flavours of ripe fruits, caramel, toffee, warm spices and a touch of toasted oak.
- Finish: The finish is long and satisfying, with a lingering sweetness and a touch of smokiness.
